Students may select six-weeks paid accommodation with the option of a two-week extension for birth mothers who deliver by C-section or up to one year of reduced-load registered student status not counting toward time-to-degree limits.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Family health insurance is available, but not covered by an assistantship.

Please describe why someone applying to graduate school who is interested in a female-friendly department should choose your department.

Cornell University was founded in 1865 as an institution where "any person can find instruction in any study", and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness remains one of our core values. Cornell's Physics Department strives to create and maintain a healthy professional environment, and to ensure that all its members feel valued, respected, and able to work and study free of harassment, bias and discrimination. The department provides a variety of resources and activities to further these goals. For example, Equity Advocates are faculty and staff members who aim to identify and address issues related to diversity and inclusion, and to provide support to students who may be affected by such issues. Women in Physics and Related Fields (WiP+) is an informal group which includes (primarily) women faculty, postdocs and students, dedicated to creating a supportive community for women in STEM fields.

Please include the name of faculty or staff member and an email they can be reached at for further questions.
