Is there a family leave policy for graduate students? If so, describe.

Since graduate students normally only work half time, there is no family leave through the University. However, our department has had several students who have needed leave for either family emergencies or for childbirth and the department has always accommodated their needs.

Is there family health insurance for graduate students? If so, is it included in the stipend?

Students appointed as either TAs or RAs, receive benefits through the University equivalent to classified staff, including the ability to include dependents. The student¿s costs are covered by the University and approximately 60% of the family¿s insurance is covered, depending on individual needs.
