There is not a formal family leave policy for graduate students for the College. The Department works to accommodate this on an individual case basis.

Dedman College has a Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) comprised of representatives from each of the departments in Dedman College with a graduate program. The GSA receives a portion of the student fees paid by the graduate students in Dedman College. These funds are returned to graduate students through small grants to cover certain expenses. At SMU the physics department is small and specialized in its research focus. The department in the last two years has been fortunate to make exceptional faculty hires that have included two women faculty members, thereby increasing the diversity of the department as a whole.
